Oaths & Affirmations: When and Why You Might Need One

At Girl Friday Notary Services, I’m here to help you understand every part of the notarial process—oaths and affirmations included!

These are sometimes required for documents that need an extra layer of truthfulness, like affidavits, sworn statements, or when you’re verifying something under penalty of perjury. So, if you’re signing something that requires a promise to be truthful, an oath or affirmation might be part of the process.

Oath or Affirmation—What’s the Difference?

An oath is a spoken pledge to tell the truth, made to God or a higher power, while an affirmation is the same promise but based on personal honor, without religious reference. Both are equally valid, and the choice is yours!

Here’s What to Expect:

1. Face-to-Face Meeting: You’ll need to appear in person for an oath or affirmation (no remote options here!).

2. ID Verification: I’ll ask for acceptable ID to confirm your identity.

3. The Promise: I’ll ask if you swear or affirm to tell the truth. A clear “Yes” or “I do” seals the deal.

These steps help ensure your document is legally strong and binding. So if you’re working with affidavits, verifications, or any sworn statement, I’m here to make this process smooth, clear, and professional.

Questions about oaths or affirmations? I’ve got you covered!
